The Quest for the Albino Redwood, and Shining Lights on Creatures Without Vertebrae.

Went out to the forest on Saturday to try to find the Albino Redwood. Apparently its needles are white. I've heard about it for years and wanted to go see it, but I think it's camera shy and knew I was taking pictures. Next time I'll leave the ol' picture maker at home.

Then on Sunday I finished up work on my senior project and took some pictures at HSU's Marine Lab. A sea star with an everted gut, a couple of octopi (one with an egg mass), some brittle stars, and a nudibranch. We've been looking at the ways different organisms respond to certain wavelengths of light (blue and red mostly) to see how those responses are related to their "eyesight genes" or opsins. Sunday we did some plankton tows and then hung out at the marine lab doing, as Ed, my adviser put it, "what we scientists call 'science'".
